At the end of June 2014, despite the peer pressure and status quo urging me to apply for university, I made the decision to take a gap year in order to travel and volunteer. Travel is the only thing I’ve never second-guessed in life, partially because the wonders of exploration can be summarized by a favourite quote:

The only thing that interferes with my learning is my education.” – Albert Einstein

The voyage kick-starts July 24th with a road trip out to Victoria, BC, where I hike the famous West Coast Trail with 3 good friends – a gruelling 75 km in 8 days and 7 nights. From one pack to another, I set out early August for Bali, Indonesia, where I’ll be backpacking & volunteering around the country. The trip comes to a close early November with a 16 hour flight from Brisbane, Australia, back to home.

Join me as I volunteer, wander through hostels, devour grasshoppers on sticks, wave at whales, frolic through waterfalls, and read on the train (some things never change.)

To my friends and family who never believed I’d really escape: when you want something badly enough, the entire universe conspires to help you achieve it. Always sending you love.
